  • SmartBank wanted to offer a relevant banking experience for SMB Business Owners. Data revealed that this kind of audience represents 70% of Brazil’s economy and this kind of business employs almost half of the country’s population.

  • Business banking accounts are usually offered by the biggest banks as a copy of personal banking accounts without taking in consideration business needs.

  • SMB Business Owners are very busy. They need to check an endless task list every day. They need to handle several critical activities like sending invoices, working as the business cashier, paying for goods, checking invoice payment status, buying goods for business, selling goods, taking of customers, giving their staff work directions, checking product quality, delivering goods for customers, etc.

  • The banking app had to be very easy to use and effective.

My Approach

As a UX Researcher, I was able to bring previous studies findings regarding business needs to the table.  

I Interviewed several business owners and the research revealed collective needs and challenges among business owners. These were gaps that we could fill. My focus was to fill those gaps in these areas: user-centered design and mobile first experience.

The very first task I was in charge was to design the Brazilian Boleto for Mobile experience. It was clear that a lot of boleto features were optional. So therefore I identified the set of minimum required information to issue a boleto: Payer, Value and Payment Due Date. All the remaining information were designed to be optional.
